Several construction workers including some Buddhist monks were immediately hospitalized after a temple construction collapsed on Monday in Prasat Koukchak pagoda in Siem Reap city. The incident left 3 people dead and 16 injured [ Khmertimes online source].
According to Khmertimes news , one of the survivors reported the construction team was using wooden scaffolding structure instead of concrete one. The structure was not strong enough to hold the heavy first floor concrete. [click here to view a sample of wooden scaffolding structure]
The temple is located in Siem Reap province in Koukchak commune.
The injured and the other crews were pouring the roof concrete when the building collapsed.
According to the same source, a witness said that ” “It started to collapse from the center point first. I saw it happening and was about to jump but could not make it on time,” he said. “The debris buried me up to my head so I was able to breathe. I shouted for help and it took more than half an hour before I was rescued.”
